GIS in the Cloud

Geographic information system (GIS) technology has gone mainstream--it seems to be everywhere. Cloud computing has also gone mainstream, becoming a bigger part of our lives every day. It shouldn't be surprising that these two technologies are being used together.

I've written a white paper on this combination, sponsored by ESRI. It's called GIS in the Cloud: The ESRI Example, and it illustrates some ways in which ESRI is applying cloud computing to GIS. The paper's goal is to give anybody interested in this area a big-picture view of how one GIS provider is exploiting the possibilities of the cloud.
